Below are a few of our favorite easy-to-moderate hikes in Stowe, VT:

1. Stowe Pinnacle – A popular hike for both locals and visitors, Stowe Pinnacle is approximately 3 miles round trip. This relatively short hike is steep, so be prepared to feel the blood pumping.

The reward at the top is an expansive view of the Green Mountains to the west, including Camel’s Hump, Mt. Mansfield, the Bolton Range, Nebraska Notch, and the Sterling Range. Appropriate for children over the age of 7-8, depending on pace, this hike can take anywhere between 1.5 and 3 hours to complete.

2. Mount Hunger  – A bit more adventurous than Stowe Pinnacle is the nearby Mount Hunger trail.

Located in neighboring Waterbury, this 4 mile (3-4 hours) hike is part of the Putnam State Forest.

The summit offers long views in almost every direction with the Green Mountains to the west and sweeping valleys and forests below. On a clear day, it’s possible to see to the White Mountains of New Hampshire and maybe even get a glimpse of Mt. Washington.

Many report that snow can hang on near the top of this trail until mid-May so if you are planning a springtime hike on Mount Hunger, make sure you are prepared with footwear that can handle snow and ice, and lots of layers.

3. Moss Glen Falls – This is a brief and easy hike with a big payoff! A quick quarter mile walk through the woods gets you to the base of Moss Glen Falls, an 80 foot waterfall that is one of the region’s best!

Great for a hot day, the gorge provides a cool space and, if you bring your bathing suit, you can splash around in some of the small pools near the falls.

This short excursion will fit into most any vacation you plan to Stowe, even if you’re short on time.
