Sunny days and cool evenings have attracted visitors to the Green Mountains in the summertime for years. Summer in Stowe, VT provides seemingly infinite choices to get outside and enjoy your favorite activity, or even try out a new one.

Whether you’re joining us for the weekend or are lucky enough to spend even more of your summer here, check out four of our favorite summer activities in Stowe, VT!

Biking

For both mountain bikers and road cyclists, Stowe has tons of opportunities. In 2013, the Boston Globe declared that Stowe was fast becoming a “mountain bike mecca,” and we have to agree. The majority of Stowe’s 50+ miles of interconnected mountain biking trails are free and open to the public, with varying terrain to match many levels.

The Stowe Mountain Bike Club is an excellent resource for trail information, maps, and mountain biking events that span spring, summer, and fall.

Stowe is also the perfect location for road cyclists looking to take long tours with breathtaking scenery. Take a look at these cycling routes from GoStowe.com for a sampling of the possibilities.

Fly Fishing

The many streams, rivers, and secret fishing holes found in and around Stowe make it the perfect place to perfect your fly fishing game! There are opportunities for experts and beginners alike with offerings for lake charters and guided tours.

We highly recommend starting your fly fishing adventure at The Fly Rod Shop. This local Stowe establishment offers everything from rental gear to free casting clinics to family programs and excursions to “secret” fishing holes.

Canoeing and Kayaking

Enjoying the beauty of the mountains at the height of summer while floating along one of our rivers or lakes is almost guaranteed to raise your spirits and lower your blood pressure!

Stowe offers plenty of options for boating, for all skill levels, with many places to rent equipment, as well as seek out instruction or join in on a guided tour:

Zip Lining

Listen up, thrill seekers! If calming boat rides and quiet fishing trips just aren’t your thing – we’ve got you covered.

The Stowe area is home to two adventure centers that allow you to explore our beautiful area from the treetops!

ArborTrek Canopy Adventures offers zip line canopy tours and tree-top obstacle courses. You can stay for the day and experience it all or book the options that excite you the most.

Stowe Mountain Resort also offers zip tours from the summit of Mt. Mansfield – the highest peak in Vermont. Many zip lines run side-by-side so bring a friend and fly through the trees together!

We encourage everyone to see what Stowe has to offer in the summer. If you’re looking for a more relaxed vibe, you can always take a leisurely stroll or bike ride along the popular Stowe Recreation Path, or take in one of the many annual summer events that attract people year after year!
