The crowds thin out, the air is milder, but there is still snow on the mountains for those who really love spring skiing. These are all reasons why we love spring in Stowe, Vermont!

Why Visit Stowe in Spring?

The calendar can say whatever it wants, but Vermonters know that a true sign of spring is when Smugglers’ Notch Pass, on Route 108 between Stowe and Jeffersonville, reopens to traffic.

This twisty, turny road that climbs through some of our highest mountains, shuts down during the winter months. When it reopens, spring visitors can be among the first to climb the road, enjoy the views, and discover the caves where smugglers once hid their contraband and gave this pass its name.

The best part about the clear roads is that you can enjoy the views of early spring blooming in the Green Mountains from the comfort of your car. There are great scenic drives in the area and at this time of year, you won’t find the congestion that is prevalent during leaf peeping season.

Hop in the car in the morning, tour the area, and then find a cozy place for lunch to round it out.
