This time of year Vermont weather can cover a lot of territory—the month of March is notorious for spring snowfall and chilly temperatures. But that old meteorological calendar doesn’t lie: Spring is in the air in the Green Mountain State!

Treat yourself to a luxurious, secluded getaway at our country inn here at Edson Hill and you’ll have the prodigious joys of springtime in Stowe at your fingertips. Here are some of the ways to enjoy the season while savoring our historic and view-rich grounds, our exquisite amenities, and our deep-rooted hospitality.

The Quintessential Taste of Spring: Experience Vermont’s Maple-Sugaring Season

Warm, sunny days and cold nights: the springtime recipe for getting that rich maple sap flowing and sugarhouse operations crackling along! Vermont is flowing with maple syrup, and late February into April is prime time for landing a firsthand look at the time-tested maple-sugaring process. Here at Edson Hill, we tap ten of our own maple trees from Edson Woods and boil our own syrup right here on property. Visiting sugarhouses and sugarbushes (the tapped stands of mature maples) this time of year is classic Vermont seasonal tourism. The Vermont Maple Open House Weekend in late March is an especially great time to visit, with syrup-making operations open all across the state.

Enjoy Stowe Like a Local at Edson Hill

With the sun getting stronger and the days getting longer, there couldn’t be a better time to get in some spring skiing. Beat the crowds and join us here at Edson Hill for some mid-week fun on our Nordic trails for some cross country skiing or snowshoeing. Our mid-week room rates offer a great way to enjoy the sunny spring-time temperatures while experiencing Stowe like a local.

Hit the Slopes for Springtime Skiing & Riding

Did the recently concluded 2022 Winter Olympics get you hankering for some more downhill and freestyle action? Spring is the best time to hit the slopes of Stowe Mountain Resort, draped on the flanks of Spruce Peak and Mount Mansfield. The resort throws its annual Stowe Sugar Slalom—one of the country’s best-known alpine races—falls on April 2nd and 3rd this year.

Take to a Trout Stream

Vermont’s trout season gets underway in mid-April, with plentiful opportunities for beginner and veteran anglers alike, and for both spin-casting and fly fishing. You’ve got some fantastic local knowledge to “hook” into in the form of fishing guides and tackle shops. Consider taking advantage of the free casting clinics offered by the Fly Rod Shop, set right in Stowe.
