Exciting cocktails and Vermont craft beer are at your fingertips!

The art of the cocktail has been coming back in recent years, and with the rise in local distilleries and access to great ingredients, Stowe, Vermont is a great place to be if you want to try a great new cocktail. If cocktails aren’t your thing, there is plenty of opportunity to try out one of the many legendary local brews that have been popping up in our area.

Either way, if you’re in the mood for something fresh and new, here are some of my personal recommendations.

1) Doc Ponds

Bring your appetite – Doc Ponds offers a full lunch and dinner menu, and even includes kids options. There are daily local craft beer specials, as well as an extensive cocktail and wine menu.

The Cider Punch is a popular choice – as a mix of rum, brandy, lemon, maple, and cider, chances are good it’s not something you’ve tried before. If you’re a night owl this is a great choice – the kitchen serves until 10 every night and the doors don’t close until midnight.

2) Picnic Social

Picnic Social has more of a funky, modern vibe than many of Stowe’s restaurants. The Kentucky Woodchuck is a great choice that includes local ingredients like local maple syrup, apple cider.

If you’re new to the area, though, the Vermont Old Fashioned (maple bourbon and bitters, simple syrup, and some maraschino cherries) is practically the physical embodiment of our state and deserves some attention.

3) The Bench

Located just north of Picnic Social, The Bench is ideal when you’re looking for great dining in Stowe, VT that’s sure to fill you up.

Unlike some other locations, their list of drinks changes often so you really have to check it out to pick out your drink of choice.  That said, they do have a full selection of cocktails at any given time, so don’t hesitate to ask for a recommendation.

4) The Tavern at Edson Hill

Our own Tavern at Edson Hill offers an intimate setting to enjoy a cocktail with friends – complete with roaring fire and comfortable seating. Cocktails, local beers, and fine wines are all on offer, as well as a locally sourced, seasonal menu perfect for apres ski!

Try one of our favorite seasonal cocktails crafted by Edson Hill’s Food and Beverage Manager, Kristin McArdle:

Edson Hill’s Cucurbita Cooler

A seasonal rum cocktail with house-made butternut squash syrup, house made allspice dram, Mt Gay Silver Rum, lemon juice and a splash of Barbancourt aged 15-year Rum, shaken and topped with grated nutmeg…

  • 1 ½ ounce Mount Gay Rum
  • ½ ounce Barbancourt Rum
  • 1-ounce squash syrup
  • 1-ounce fresh lemon juice
  • ½ ounce housemade allspice dram

Add ingredients into shaker tin, dirty pour into rocks glass. Garnish with micro plane of nutmeg.

Cheers!
