Ellen & Will | September 8, 2022

When you’re a wedding photographer, planning your own big day can be a daunting task, but for Ellen of The Light and Color, it was a breeze. With years of experience capturing couples’ special moments, Ellen knew exactly what she wanted for her own wedding, and there was no doubt in her mind that Edson Hill in Vermont was the perfect venue.

After quickly putting together a team of trusted industry friends to handle all the details, Ellen and Will’s big day was set in motion. And what a day it was! With abundant sunshine and temperatures hitting 80 degrees, the late summer wedding was a beautiful celebration of love, family, and friends.

Ellen and Will exchanged their vows under a natural arbor of honeysuckle and hops in the meadow, surrounded by 65 of their closest family and friends. The ceremony was made even more special by the appearance of a butterfly that had emerged from a chrysalis that the couple had been nurturing for weeks. It was a symbol of change and new beginnings, and it couldn’t have been more perfectly timed.

After the ceremony, guests were led to the Tavern Patio for cocktail hour, where they enjoyed the Americana-bluegrass tunes of The Tenderbellies. The reception feast was held on the Upper Patio, with a farmstand-inspired seating cart display featuring autumn harvest fruits against a golden-hour backdrop of Edson Hill’s pastures and ponds.

Ellen handpicked every element of the tablescapes, including antique crocks and jugs for the flower arrangements, which she created herself with the help of some talented friends turned floral assistants. The garden-inspired arrangements included a mix of homegrown marigolds, tomato plants, cosmos, and other Vermont-grown blooms.

The evening was capped off with dancing around the fire pit and, for the more adventurous, a skinny dip in Edson Hill’s swimming pond. Ellen’s team of videographers shot the wedding on Super 8 film, capturing the day in a dreamy, vintage style that perfectly complemented the rustic charm of the venue.

All in all, Ellen and Will’s wedding was a beautiful reflection of their love and the community of family and friends that surround them. And, as always, Ellen’s eye for detail and her talent for capturing the perfect moment shone through in every aspect of the day. It was a joy to be a part of, and we wish the happy couple all the best for their future together.
