Hiking remains one of the most popular year-round things to do in Stowe, VT, as more and more New Englanders discover the glory of the Green Mountains. One of the many perks of a well-deserved getaway to Edson Hill is our on-site trail system that meanders through our gorgeous 38-acre property. But you’re also urged to discover the best Stowe hiking trails scattered throughout the pristine wilderness that surrounds our historic, elegant resort. We’ve hand-selected three of our favorite Stowe hiking trails to ensure that your adventure-based escape into the Green Mountains is nothing short of flawless!

Stowe Pinnacle Trail

Like most Stowe hiking trails that ascend to a Green Mountain peak, the Stowe Pinnacle Trail is equally jaw-dropping, challenging, and rewarding. If you’re hoping to challenge yourself this summer with a wide variety of steep climbs, then Stowe is the place for you! The four-mile, out-and-back expedition to and from this glorious overlook is highlighted by rich hardwoods, pretty wildflowers, deep mosses, and chipper blackpoll warblers. The bird’s eye view of Stowe Village below, as well as the sweeping, panoramic views of the mountain range at the peak, is breathtaking. We recommend bringing along hiking polls, bottled water, and perhaps a light picnic.

Long Trail to the Chin / Profanity Trail

Experienced backpackers and hikers often seek out the most difficult Stowe hiking trails the moment they arrive. Luckily for them, there are dozens of extreme Stowe hiking trails within minutes of Edson Hill, including the Long Trail to the Chin. Don’t venture onto Long Trail if it’s rained recently as the steep sections get extremely slippery. Wear proper hiking boots, dress in layers, hike on a sunny day, and pack the essentials (especially water). You’ll be able to see hundreds of miles in the distance from the peak!

Moss Glen Falls Trail

Waterfalls are one of the world’s most visually soothing natural wonders. There’s just something alleviating, wonderous, and reflective about searching and eventually discovering a waterfall hidden deep in a lush forest. Most visitors embark on the short stroll to and from Moss Glen Falls, but you can also venture deeper into the woods for an hour or two of “forest bathing.” The well-marked trail to the falls is approximately half of a mile in total, so feel free to bring along your dogs and kids.
