Stowe, Vermont can hold its own with any town in the country when it comes to the winter sports opportunities it lays at the boot-tips of the visitor. That includes, of course, the downhill skiing, snowboarding, and snow-play available at Stowe Mountain and Smuggler’s Notch resorts close by. And with a multitude of state parks and forests maintaining both front-country and backcountry trails, the opportunities for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are pretty close to endless.

What’s wonderful about staying here with us at Edson Hill is that not only do we put you within ready reach of these world-class snow sports and outdoor-recreation destinations, but we also maintain our very own superb trail system on our 38-acre property. Call one of our Manor House or Guest House rooms your Stowe-area home away from home, and you’ll have this wintertime at your complete disposal!

The Edson Hill Nordic Center

Our hillside property, serving up picturesque views of the Green Mountains and the Worcester Range, goes beyond luxurious indoor comforts and hospitality to encompass some wonderful fresh-air opportunities. Established by the Heath family back in the 1950s, the historic trail system here at Edson Hill is a year-round draw, and this time of year it’s a snow-lover’s dream come true.

That trail system includes nine kilometers (six miles) of groomed ski trails and five kilometers (three miles) of designated snowshoe routes. The ski trails range from Easy to Moderate and, from Bow’s Hill and Wedding Meadow to the Stonewall Loop and Janeric Plunge, they deliver both invigorating exercise and wonderful woods-and-fields ambience. The snowshoe trails, including Stridler’s Slide, Alex’s Drop, and Knight’s Alley, do the same.

Armed with the requisite trail pass, these winter circuits are yours to enjoy to the fullest during an Edson Hill stay: The trails are open daily from 10 AM to 4 PM. You can bring your own equipment or rent from us: We’ve got Rossignol skis, boots, and poles and MSR snowshoes available as well as fat bikes, headlamps, and more. We also offer private lessons courtesy of professional Nordic-ski instructors, plus a variety of guided group excursions, including utterly transfixing nighttime snowshoe tours by full-moonlight.

And when you need a warmup, steer your way to the outdoor firepit, offering crackling heat and après ski each day from noon to 4 PM.
