Here in Stowe, Vermont, summer is very nearly here, which means downright epic opportunities for outdoor recreation (and leisure!) await your enjoyment on a getaway to Edson Hill.

Come soak up the signature hospitality of our elegant country inn, set on 38 hill-set acres with a magnificent backdrop, and take advantage of our tranquil “base camp” to experience the best that the Stowe outdoors have to offer this warm, verdant time of year.

Here are just a few ideas for what to do out and about in that Green Mountain sunshine on a summertime escape to Edson Hill!

Hiking

Stowe may be nationally renowned as a snowsports hub, but this charming village is just as superlatively set up for hiking as well. Miles and miles of trails, ranging from easy lowland paths to grueling high-country traverses, lure Edson Hill guests into our spectacular frontcountry and backcountry.

Wend your way up to Sunset Rock to gaze down upon Stowe’s nestled layout, or climb to the Stowe Pinnacle and gaze from Mount Mansfield to Camel’s Hump.

Speaking of Mount Mansfield—the 4,395-foot pinnacle of the Green Mountains (and of Vermont as a whole)—you’ve got multiple hikes on its burly eminence, including routes to the summit along the venerable Long Trail or the short-but-tough Hellbrook Trail, and the ridgecrest ramble between the Nose and the Chin.

And so many other fine hikes beckon: from the short walk to 85-foot Moss Glen Falls to explorations of the whitewater-washed Sterling Falls Gorge.

Biking

Summer’s prime season for Stowe-area mountain biking, too. Take a leisurely ride along the paved Stowe Recreation Path, or tackle more than 50 miles of singletrack trails. The Cady Hill Forest is one of Stowe’s premier mountain-biking destinations, as is the more farflung-feeling Sterling Forest.

Paddling & Tubing

It’s mighty hard to resist the lure of our area rivers, reservoirs, and lakes on a summer afternoon. Go canoeing, kayaking, or tubing on the Winooski River, or take a stand-up paddleboard out on the calm and expansive Waterbury Reservoir.

And Much, Much More

From golfing (and disc golfing!) to ziplining, horseback riding, and swimming, there’s much else to do on one of those long, lazy, impossibly beautiful Stowe summer days.

And no better springboard for outdoor fun and adventure here than Edson Hill! Luxuriate in one of our Manor House or Guest House rooms, stroll our own property’s bucolic paths, and raise a toast to Vermont’s beauty as perceived in our sightlines up the heights of the Green Mountains and the Worcester Range. No better place to wrap up a full summer day amid Stowe’s glorious hinterland than our Edson Hill Dining Room or Tavern.
